Mark your calendars for the Lobster Bake and Annual Meeting, scheduled for July 13. A notice and request for volunteers will be sent in June.
August 4th is the tentative date for the Hemenway Regetta. Notification and confirmation will be mailed to PMYC members with the sign-up forms for the Annual Meeting and Lobster Bake.
Background: The "small boat committee", established at the Annual Meeting last July, purchased a small fleet of Dragonfly boats for the Ocean US Institute. The purchase was funded completely by private donations. Gear consists of 13 masts, 11 rudders, 10 tillers, 10 booms, 9 hulls, 7centerboards and 5 suits of sails (all new).
Racing Team Program: The PMYC Board has approved teh development of a new racing team program as part of the existing sailing school which will reach out and encourage more local youngsters and their families to join the club. Henri Gignoux, coach of Sumner Highschool's Sailing Program, and Steve Pagels, Chairman of the local school board, have expressed interest and support. The PMYC racing team would challenge other local teams, racing their boats when away and on our boats at home.
July 8-12: Beginners. All students must be age 10 by 7/8/02, not "almost 10".
July 22-27: Advanced Sailors. Students who can demonstrate mastery of basic sailing skills and are interested in learning basic racing skills.
June 22-August 8: Adult Sailing Instruction or general club members sailing by appointment.
June 22-August 8: Sailing Team. Details to follow.
Tuition: $25 per student for the summer! Parents must be PMYC members. Historically, PMYC has been a volunteer outfit. The increased waterfront activity will require more help than in the past. All volunteers, regardless of experience, will be gratefully accepted.Call Deb or George Arey at 546-7491 if you are interested in participating in any of these activities.
"I have been invited to represent the Hospice of Maine in the National Hospice Alliance 2002 Championship Regatta taking place in Annapolis, 4/12 to 4/14/02. The invitation was extended by Jim Fernald based on CRACKERJACK'S performance in the SW Harbor Hospice Regatta over the past few years. The Regatta will be sailed in J-105s, a new experience for me."
