Petit Manan Yacht Club
2006 Hemenway Regatta |
The Petit Manan Yacht Club (PMYC) will hold the annual Hemenway Regatta (the Regatta) on Sunday, July 30, 2006. The Regatta will be sailed on Narraguagus Bay and is open to club member owned or leased sailing vessels suitable to conditions that might be encountered in unprotected water. Non-member owned or leased sailing vessels may participate upon payment of an entry fee of $10. The entry fee also entitles the skipper and crew to attend the post race regatta party. Any vessel competing in the race must be in compliance with U. S. Coast Guard requirements for a vessel of its size and equipped with a VHF radio capable of receiving weather broadcasts and VHF CH 68. The decision for any entrant to race or not is solely that of the skipper.
The Regatta will be sailed over the course as shown in the graphic. The length of the course is approximately 8 nm. The direction around the course (CCW or CW) will be determined by the race committee based on conditions and announced on VHF CH 68 prior to the start. The starting sequence will begin at 1300, July 30, 2006 between a yellow flag flown from the committee boat and Red/White Can "NB" in Narraguagus Bay, about 1.0 nm NNW of Trafton Island. There will be a staggered start. Marks of the course are a drop mark off Baldwin Head, Green Can "3" at the N end of Pond Island and Red/White Can "NB". Marks are to be rounded either to port or to starboard as appropriate to the course direction, either CCW or CW respectively. The finish line will be the same as the starting line. The race will consist of two circuits around the course. Government marks that are not marks of the course must be honored on the appropriate side. The Racing Rules of Sailing (2005-2008) apply to all yachts while racing. All entrants will monitor VHF CH 68 from 1100, July 30, 2006 until they finish the race. In the event that the committee boat is not present at the finish line when a boat finishes, the boat will record its finish time and report it to the race committee at the earliest opportunity.
Yachts will be assigned starting times based on past performance in the regatta and their yacht's characteristics. First time entrants must submit details on their yacht to the Regatta Chairman, Alan Krulisch. The placement of yachts in the standings for the regatta will correspond to the order in which yachts cross the finish line.
All entrants must register with the regatta chairman no later than 1200, July 28, 2006. There will be a skippers meeting at 61 Blasket Point Road, Milbridge at 1730, July 28, 2006. Attendance is not mandatory but is recommended. Starting sheets will be available at the skippers meeting and from the race committee on the day of the race.
There will be a post regatta party following the race starting at 1700. Details of the party can be found in the June 2006 club newsletter.
