PMYC Memberships Fees Are Due!

Once again it is important that you submit your membership fees as soon as possible so that the PMYC operating budget can be determined before the summer season begins. For this reason membership fees are due upon the receipt of Winter newsletter. If you haven’t yet paid your dues, please due so asap. Memberships are $80.00 per family and $40.00 for single members. Make your checks payable to the Petit Manan Yacht Club and send them to:

Please include any changes in your address or contact information. Also indicate your interest in volunteering for club activities which include waterfront set-up, sailing instructing, lobster bake, and program planning. New members who have joined the club since September 1, 2007 may consider their 2008 dues have been paid.

Another season of activities is fast approaching for the “Best Yacht Club in Maine”. We look forward to seeing you this summer and remember to volunteer in any way you can. Please contact any of the club officers and board members with your ideas.

Pot Lucks *** Please remember to notify the host/hostess several days before if you are going to attend a potluck! This greatly assists them with their planning. Anyone interested in making a presentation at one of the potlucks please contact the Vice Commodore and we will schedule you.

July 12th (Saturday) — Lobster Bake & Annual Meeting. 1 PM Happy Hour, 2 PM Serving Begins Location (Fair Weather): Frank Taylor's. Click for directions and phone number.

Foul Weather: VFW Hall in Harrington at the intersection of Route 1A and Pineo Point Road … check the website if there is any question about the weather for the Lobster Bake.

August 2nd - Hemenway Regatta, Check back for course details. For more information and registration, contact Alan Krulisch.

August 2nd (Saturday), Post Regatta Party around 5:00 PM (the racers may be late). Everyone is welcome regardless of whether or not they race. Rosalyn and Jack Ayers will host the party at their home on Hardwood Pt. Road in Harrington. Everyone please bring appetizers. Click for directions and phone number.

August 23th (Saturday), 5:30 PM - David & Jane Sharpe will host this potluck.  Please call with your menu contributions. Click for directions and phone number.

We are continuing to update the on-line picture book ... it will help new members connect names and faces. If your picture isn't there, please ask Wren to take one the next time you see him, or even better stop by his home in Cherryfield, he has a portrait studio setup, it will only take a couple of minutes. SAILING SCHOOL & WATERFRONT
PMYC Sailing School 2008
Supervised sailing events

Sailing School Dates:

Adults July 1-4
Beginners July 7-11 & 14-15
Racing (Advanced) July 16-18 & 21-22

The Racing (Advanced) program is for adults and juniors who can rig and sail boats without assistance. The program will focus on racing and will start with the racing rules which will be handed out during the course.

Sailing Program Fees:
    $50 for the Beginners Class
    $50 for the Adult Class
    $50 for the Race Week

Race week fees will be waived for those who volunteer their time for the duration of one of the other classes

RULES FOR SAILING PMYC SAILBOATS

The PMYC sailboats are a valuable resource available to all members, and it is important that all members feel free to sail the boats. But in the interest of safety multiple instructors & chase boats will supervise all Sailing School programs. Safety Rules for all other club sailing are as follows:

  1. PFD or life jacket must be worn on docks and in boats
  2. There must be a PMYC member in every boat
  3. Category I — SURVIVORS: Those with knowledge of sailing who can survive a capsize by righting the boat, empty the water, and sail on. They can sail with shore communication upstream from Chamberly Island. Beyond Chamberly Island must have chase boat in visual contact.
  4. Category II — SAILORS Those with knowledge of sailing but have not demonstrated they can capsize and sail on. Must have chase boat in visual contact at all times.
  5. Category III — BEGINNERS Those with no knowledge of sailing must have a sailor in the boat with them at all times.

2008 PMYC Racing

The annual Hemenway Regatta for cruiser style sailboats will be held Saturday, August 2. The race course will be in Pleasant Bay or Narraguagus Bay (TBD). Details will be posted on the schedule page.

The complete race instructions, will be posted to the PMYC web site when they become available. Information for the kayak race will also be included on the website.
